Facebook began to remove the need for users to use a post-by email address in favor of using the Facebook app on Android, iOS, Windows Phone, etc. This change was made in order to make the Facebook app more accessible and user-friendly.
Facebook Texts is a new way to communicate with your friends on Facebook. You can update your status, do a couple of other things, and send photos over text message. The post-by-email address has been completely removed, so you can’t send photos from your mobile phone anymore via email or text.
In my opinion, this was not a necessary move. In the U.S., most people might be using smartphones with data plans, but there are millions of people in other countries that still use dumbphones. As of now, other than updating your status via SMS, you can add a friend, poke someone, like a page, get a text when a friend posts something, and get a one-time password. How to Setup Facebook Texts
Under Settings, you’ll find a section called “Texts.” In this section, you can set up Facebook Texts. Here, you can create and send text messages to your friends and family. You can also use Facebook Texts to communicate with other Facebook users.
If you have not added a phone number to your account, or if you have removed your current phone number, please click on Mobile and you will be taken to the account settings page. There, you can add a new phone number or change your existing one.
If you don’t have text messaging enabled, you should see a big Activate Text Messaging button below your number. Click on that and a window will popup where you have to first select your country and mobile carrier.
Facebook Texts are a great way to keep in touch with friends and family while you’re on the go. They work on supported carriers in most places in the world, so unless you live in the middle of nowhere, you should be able to use Facebook Texts. To start using Facebook Texts, just send F to a specific number and enter the confirmation code sent to your phone via SMS.

Starting today, Text Activated will be next to your number and you’ll have a few new options down at the bottom like Facebook Messages, Daily Text Limit and Time of Day. You can now choose to have Text Activated send you a message every day at a set time or limit how many messages you receive in a day. ..
You can control how often you get text notifications on Facebook. You can choose to get notifications every time someone sends you a message, or only when you have specific hours in which to receive messages. You can also choose to not receive text notifications at all, if that’s more comfortable for you.
To post a status update on Facebook, just type your message normally and send it to the same number given by Facebook when you activated Facebook Texts above.
You won’t be able to get a confirmation message back from Facebook, so you’ll need to check your Facebook profile to see if your status got updated.
I tried to post a picture using text but it didn’t work. I think it might be because I enabled the subject line and put the word photos as the subject, but I’m not sure.
The one reason why I like Facebook Texts over actually using the app on my iPhone is that I can add a friend quickly by number. Usually when I meet someone new, the first thing I get is his or her phone number. All you have to do is send a text with the word ADD in front of their number to add them as a friend.
