Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a Facebook post today, announced the global release of the communities on WhatsApp. So let’s take a look at what exactly Communities is
WhatsApp Communities
WhatsApp Communities are essentially an extension of groups that allows users to bring existing groups under one umbrella, namely Communities. This feature will allow users to receive updates sent to the entire community and organize smaller group discussions on what matters to them. Communities on WhatsApp improve groups by enabling sub-groups, announcements channels, multiple threads, and more. Just like groups, Communities will also have admins to manage them. Admins will be able to choose which groups will be a part of their community by forming new groups or adding already existing groups and deleting any inappropriate messages, All secured by end-to-end encryption. Communities’ global rollout has begun, and it will be available to everyone over the few months and will aim to benefit workplaces, schools, etc. Similarly, users will also have the ability to join or leave communities that no longer interest them with an option to leave silently so other members don’t get notified when they leave. In addition to this, the instant Messaging giant also released chat polls for groups.
In chat Polls in Groups
Group members will be able to make polls on a specific topic and also will be able to add up to 12 options in a Pol. This feature won’t be limited to only Group admins, and of course, like any other poll feature, users will also be able to see the results of the poll by tapping ‘view results. Lastly, Whatsapp also added the ability to add up to 32 members in a group video call.
32 Members’ Group Video Calls
In September this year. Mark Zuckerberg announced that Whatsapp is working on a feature, i.e., Call links. This feature lets users share links where others can join in a video call just by tapping on it! Similar to what Zoom & Google Meet has. Also, the links can be shared on other platforms, and others will be able to join through it. WhatsApp was testing this feature with up to 32 participants in a video call. PS. It was limited to 8 participants only. The feature has been rolled out and should be available in the next update/ These were all the new features that Whatsapp released today; also, what are your thoughts about Whatsapp Communities? and which feature are you most excited about?
